So, you’re about to embark on a trip to the amazing island of Maui. You’ve never been, but you’ve read on the web it’s about 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit year round, so you’re set, right? Well, you may want to bring more than just your bathing suit and sunscreen.
Maui has a lot of different climates depending on where you are on the island. If you plan to see Haleakala sunrise, make sure to bring a jacket or some winter accessories because it gets cold and wet up there! Haleakala National Park is one of Maui’s treasured attractions. Even Mark Twain had something to say about his experience: “I felt like the last man, neglected of the judgment, and left pinnacled in mid-heaven, a forgotten relic of a vanished world.” We think you stated that perfectly, Mark!
There are a lot of great hikes on Maui and other outdoor activities that you may not want to miss out on. Make sure to bring comfortable hiking shoes, like tennis shoes or running shoes, and a hat for a fun volcanic rock hike at La Perouse Bay or a rain forest excursion on the Road to Hana.
You may want to go surfing or SUPing while you’re in town, but you can rent all the gear you need when you get to the island. And don’t worry about bringing fancy clothing, Maui’s pretty laid back and so are the restaurants here.
Many of the resorts, including Maui Kai, have washers and dryers, so you can pack light and not worry about heavy bags. Maui Kai also has board games, a huge collection of DVDs, an entire library of books, and in-room beach towels, so you don’t have to worry about lugging those things with you. One thing you shouldn’t forget: Your sunglasses!
