There is certainly something to be said about exploring Maui’s tropical landscape on foot. It is a wonderful experience to be sure but there are other ways to soak up the sights after spending a restful night in one of our Maui vacation rentals. For example, many guests choose to tour Maui by helicopter and these tours are offered by several aviation experts on the island.
The tours typically start and end at Kahului Airport, which is less than an hour’s drive from our beautiful, oceanfront suites. Guests that wish to sign up for a tour are encouraged to wear form-fitting sunglasses that are attached to cords and dark-colored clothing to avoid having their views obstructed by the sun’s glare. It’s also a good idea to leave any hats, purses and loose jewelry back at the condo. Otherwise, they may fall out of the helicopter and end up at the bottom of a crater.
We should also mention that many guests who stay at our condos and return from taking helicopter rides happily report no incidents of motion sickness. However, that doesn’t mean that no one will fall ill or discover that they’re scared of heights during the flight. That said, guests may want to tuck a package of Dramamine in their pockets and avoid enjoying caffeinated drinks before the tour just to be on the safe side.
Most of the helicopter rides run during the morning hours to be sure, but they’re 30-minutes to two hours, so guests should plan on eating after the tour. There are places to grab cocktails and brunch at the airport. They include Stinger Ray’s and the hot dog cart, which are situated on the second level. There is also a Starbucks Coffee and Sammy’s Beach Bar located inside of the airport’s central building. They are all traditionally open by 10:30 a.m. Of course there are ample restaurants and bars located outside of the airport too.
