Hawaii is unique in that the growing season extends year round. This means fresh produce is available near our Maui condos all the time; however, the type of produce you can find does vary from season to season. Here are some fruits and vegetables that are a part of the early winter harvest in Maui that you should be looking for right now.
Fruits
Avocados begin getting ripe in September, and are in abundant supply right now. On the other hand, the peak season for bananas is over, as they are normally plentiful through October. After that time, they’ll continue to be harvested at a slower pace until around April. Some other fruits you’ll find in abundant supply right now are:
- Limes, available until March
- Strawberries, found until around July
- Starfruit, which can be picked until April
- Rambutan, a fruit that is plentiful from now until March
In addition, tangerines, oranges, pineapple and papaya can all be harvested in Maui year round.
Vegetables
When it comes to vegetables, there are numerous varieties that are harvested here year round, a few of which are:
- Cucumber
- Eggplant
- Corn
- Cabbage
- Carrots
- Green beans
- Mushrooms
- Onions
- Radishes
Other vegetables are available only during certain times of the year. Both summer and winter squash are harvested from June through March, while sweet onions can be picked from June through December.
