Situated roughly 40-minutes away from our Hawaii condos is the Iao Valley and Wailuku. It is a nature lover’s paradise that is home to several great destinations. Explore Maui’s Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens which were constructed more than 60 years ago as a place for the islands’ immigrants to gather and reconnect with their roots. Today, it serves the same function. Plus, it is a wonderful spot for visitors looking to learn more about Maui’s rich history.
When you visit, bring your cameras, sketch pads and picnic supplies. There are plenty of great photo and sketching opportunities at the gardens that you won’t find anywhere else in Maui. For example, you’re likely to see a Portuguese outdoor oven, Hawaiian grass shack, Japanese pagodas and Chinese sculptures. The images would clearly make memorable pieces of art that you could hang up at home to remember your trip to our Hawaii condos.
Of course there is an abundance of fragrant flowers, ornamental grasses, water features and beautiful trees on site too. They only add to the garden’s ambiance and cultural significance. The list of plant life that you may encounter in the gardens includes sturdy banyan trees and beautiful orchids. In certain areas of the park, there are picnicking areas complete with outdoor grills, running water and restrooms too. So, you’ll be able to enjoy an outdoor, afternoon repast in absolute comfort.
In addition, there is a nature center nearby but it isn’t always open. If you happen to be at the public gardens when the center is open, be sure to stop in for a visit. It may help expand your knowledge of Maui’s fabulous flora. Oh, and by the way, accessing the park won’t cost you a thin dime. It’s absolutely free and well worth a stop when you’re out exploring the area.
