Do you know which special holiday takes place every April in Maui? We’ll give you a hint. It’s one that is loved by adults and children alike. If you guessed National Kite Month, you’d be correct. There are several fantastic ways to celebrate it during your visit to our Maui resort.
For starters, you could take the entire family to the Kite Festival. It is tentatively scheduled to kickoff on April 11th at the Wo Hing Temple Museum in Lahaina. They’ll be kite making workshops, live entertainment, kite exhibits, Chinese foods and opportunities to shop. Admission to the Lahaina Kite Festival is free.
If you love kites of another sort, you could travel to Maui’s north shore. It is home to Kite Beach, also known as Kanaha. Each year, many kiteboarding enthusiasts descend on the area for a bit of action sports fun. It isn’t the only popular kiteboarding site on Maui either. You could also try your hand at tackling the winds off of Flash Beach, Sunset and Ohukai Beach.
There are several places on the island that rent kiteboarding gear and offer lessons as well. So there is no need to haul your own action sports gear to our Maui resort. Among the facilities in the area that provide such services are the Kiteboarding School Maui, Aqua Sports Maui, Second Wind and Naish Maui Pro Center.
In addition to those businesses, there is an active kiteboarding club on the island too. They have maps detailing all of the best spots as does the Maui Kiteboarding Association. Our Maui resort staff would be more than happy to help you obtain copies of those maps and wind reports to correspond with your overnight stay.
When you’re finished exploring Maui’s skies, you can always relax back at the resort. We’ve got a great poolside cabana, heated pool and Jacuzzi that will surely please. To learn more about celebrating National Kite Month in Maui, please contact us at (800) 367-5635.
